Founded in 1865 by Elizabth Botham, who had thirteen children and step-children, this chain of bakeries grew out of one small tea room. Prior to opening the tea room, Elizabeth used to travel around the farm houses with her basket of bread and cakes over her arm and several small children at her ankles.
Some of Botham's cakes and biscuits can be found in delis across the country, but for the full experience the Skinner St tea room is a step back in time to good quality cooking and baking. Enjoy a full afternoon tea, including scones and French fondant fancies, or just a slice of cake with English-grown Tregothnan tea. Locals rave about the iced lemon buns, available to take away and eat on the nearby seaside.
