Situated in the Victorian seaside town of Grange over Sands on the English Lakes Peninsula, The Hazelmere Café and Bakery was originally designed to be "refreshment rooms" and whilst the basement bakehouse with coal fired ovens was replaced years ago, the same traditions and values still exist as when it was first built. Cakes are hand made, using the best ingredients, by people who are passionate about what they do. Selling over 40 different cakes with an emphasis on traditional British cakes generously portioned and delicious to eat. Sweet, local cake, Cumberland Rum Nicky, sits alongside outrageously big vanilla slices on the curved cake counter along with old favourites such as the Yorkshire curd tart and Bakewell tart, fresh lemon drizzle cake and a more unusual chocolate and fresh beetroot cake. Everything can be taken away or eaten inside with a cup of loose leaf tea. The Hazelmere Cafe is justifiably renowned for its selection of different afternoon teas, fabulously presented on tiered cake stands, much like they must have been taken when the cafe was first built! The team bake 7 days a week and make all their own jams, preserves, chutneys and grow the fruit used to produce them. |
