Pretty frosted cupcakes aren't usually associated with skulls, tattoos and rock 'n' roll, but they make a happy marriage here at Cakey Muto, a cupcake emporium with a toothsome edge. Cake queen Octavia Landy joined forces with baker and cake decorator extraordinaire Lydia Romanazzi (formerly of Konditor & Cook) to open this retro-inspired Clapton café, bakery and bar late last year and the pair have quickly developed a reputation for elaborate, outlandish cakes. Highlights so far include a Che Guevara wedding cake and a Moog synthesiser birthday cake, while daily signature treats include vegan chocolate cake and beetroot red velvet cupcakes with edible red glitter skulls. Make a trip with the kids for a special afternoon tea and enjoy the free jukebox, or attend one of Cakey Muto's musical quiz nights if you like your cake with a dash of rebellion and a splash of prosecco.
